MY FAVORITE ROCKSTAR LADIES.

Ashlee Simpson's look is ever changing. From her 1st episode of "The Ashlee Simpson Show"- wearing oversized boyfriend jeans, tiny tees, and rockin cute shaggy blonde hair I loved her style. Now comming into her own, she works sleek red hair and chic black rockstar looks. Is this a style she will finally stick with? who knows, but I definatley love it!

PUT YO HOOD UP: A sneak peak at falls cutting edge accessory

After seeing a recent Fendi ad, its apparent that for Hoods are an accessory coming in full force this fall. I am a huge fan of large sunglasses and any other accessory I can hide behind on days where I feel like walking the streets of New York City makeup-less and puffy eyed. Hoods are perfect for covering up hangover hair after a late night- making women look mysterious and fabulous! Gotta love this trend!

I LIKE IT ROUGH

My personal style has always been a little bipolar, depending on my mood I have worn anything and everything. In my lifetime, I have went through stages of punk rock, bohemian, thrifty, skanky, pin-up, and just plain obscure style.
My closet is an explosion where you can find just about anything. Designer pieces, clubbin dresses (Back of the closet), jumpsuits, ripped up jeans, poofy dresses, vintage tee's...ect. Its fun to be versatile but I also think it would be amazing to have a certain look that identifies you. From the runways of Balmain, Givenchy and others I have become more inspired than ever before by the dark but feminine glamour of the "Glam Rock" trend. I can not get enough of the high fashion take on this grudgy style that makes women look edgy and glitzy without looking costumey. In this months "music" issue of Elle I was so infatuated with their take on this. With every page I turned, my heart beat faster and faster as I looked thinking to myself "This is me!!!" This is the personal style I yearn for! Give me Alexander Wang blazers, modern shapes with cutouts in dark colors, amazing sky high chunky shoes, studs on everything, flashy jewelry, glovelets, edgy street style with off the runway taste. My new obsession!!

Making the most of a mall....

Spending the summer in Michigan takes me away from the wondrous European-esque cobblestone streets of Soho and the young designer boutiques of East Village and Nolita into a suburban concrete jungle where malls are the shopping mecca. Currently being in between seasons the rainy Michigan days have lead me to walk around the variety of malls that metro- Detroit has to offer. Looking aside from the basic Forever 21's, and H&M's I decided to check out some of the "American" stores that usual bore me. Instead I was very surprised to what I found. J.Crew to me has always been a store for style-less yuppies... But to my surprise I was very inspired by the stores classic chic-ness mixed with all the seasons runway trends. They don't explode runway knockoffs all over the store and instead just add peaks of neons, embellishments, and funky jewellery to incorporate this seasons trends to their picnic table prints and pastels to stay true to their class.

Moving on.... I really have few words to say about the Gap. Sometimes I find things on the clearance racks but definitely not a store that thrills me. UNTIL they started collaborating with top young hot designers. The most recent.... Alexander Wang!!! One of my personal favorite designers of the moment. This collection will be released tomorrow in select stores and will feature a variety of khaki merchandise for under $100! Could they have picked another color?? I wish! But still, cannot wait to see this!

In June, Target will also be collaborating with Anna Sui- one of there best featured designers yet!!
Definitely something for suburbanites to be excited about!

BEEN THERE DONE THAT?

Although I was amazed with many of the Fall 09 runways.... some left me feeling a little questionable. I know that I am personally very inspired by street style and lately I have been noticing many designers taking inspiration from the streets and making it a lot more literal in their collections with loads of layers and wear-right-off the runway looks. Some I have found amazing...(Phillip Lim)...and some...leaving me say didn't i wear this last year????????
Working for Bakers a fashion forward shoe store, but most often known as a cheap place to get platforms surprised me time and time again. Other workers laugh about how off the buyers were when they would receive some whack out of this world shoe...the shoe would go to clearance and even be marked down as low at $5.00!!! I would buy this shoe and then before I knew it- next season it was on the runways!! In particular I was obsessed with a pair of two toned tights that we received last fall inspired by Chanel and even bought 4 pairs of them in total!! People didn't jump on this trend as much as anticipated. Most people saw them in the store and said "?????" they were cleared out and now this season they grace the gams of Jean Paul Gautier's models in the fall 2009 runway... for round two??... well they look fierce but isn't it too soon to repeat a trend from just one year ago?
So are we underestimating the power these mall stores have in the fashion industry? I suggest if you are a fashionista...check out the clearance racks in the mall and you will find trends the basic mall shopper finds atrocious....but you just might see next season on the catwalks...

OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE OVERPRICED

I am pretty bad at living in the present. This is why I am in the fashion industry. Collections come a year in advance and trend scouting even before that. It gives me something to look forward to. The fall 2009 collections make me want to pack away my cuttoffs and swear off palm trees and beaches for ever. Layering to me is much more interesting than wearing next to nothing and showing off my tan. Ok cynicism aside, summer will be a lovley break from the blistering cold but thank god in New York it only lasts a few months so we'll be back to piling on clothes in no time!
Heres my wrap up....

LOVED Dolce and Gabbanas' homage to Marilyn.

Sooo many more! so little time.

LOVEGAME.

In a world where you cant even walk around NYC streets in stilettos and a somewhat "outside of the box" outfit without getting mean mugged by every girl you pass and yelled at by every perv dude, it can sometimes be hard to be outrageous.
I thought moving to NYC would involve wearing 4" and + heels...everywhere, and other cutting edge runway trends, instead i find myself amongst a mob of makeup less models in flats and all black attire. But if your not a model, and dont look good in everthing having a strong stand out personal style is important. Haters or not.
This is why i envy lady gaga. I am obsessed with her style. She is always outrageous and always fabulous. She makes no apologies and lets no haters buzzkill her look. WORK. IT. OUT. GIRL.
